It certainly makes more sense to do that for a friend than a stranger but friendship should be built on something more solid, should it not?

[uh.] Mutual interest, hobbies, shared time or location... I've never heard of sleep issues as a basis for a friendship.

Those are valid reasons to be friends, but I don't think you need to think too hard on it. Shared time or location... so even just sitting next to someone and having a conversation can be all it takes.

If I can help with your sleep issues, then that can be a start too.
